About the project

Buoywatch is an iOS and Apple Watch app that delivers real-time buoy data for surfers. It turns raw NOAA readings into clear insights, giving surfers quick access to wave height, period, wind, and water temperature directly on their phone or wrist.

My role

  • Designed the full UX/UI across iOS and watchOS
  • Created brand identity and visual direction
  • Built flows optimized for fast checks before surf sessions
  • Produced App Store assets and supporting marketing visuals
  • Collaborated with an indie iOS developer to bring the product to market

Surfers often rely on buoy readings to decide when and where to paddle out, but raw data is difficult to parse quickly. Buoywatch was conceived as a tool that makes this information instantly usable.

I designed the app around speed and clarity: open it, see the numbers, and know if it’s worth grabbing the board. The iOS app provides detailed buoy stats, while the Apple Watch app offers a quick-glance experience for convenience on the move. The interface focuses on clean typography and visual hierarchy so surfers can read conditions at a glance, even outdoors in strong light.

Launched in 2020, Buoywatch has become a reliable tool for surfers who want fast, accurate buoy data. The project reflects my approach of transforming complex datasets into clear, user-friendly products that fit seamlessly into real-world routines.
